Have you ever had one or two students who don’t seem to
grasp the concept of “inside voice?” No
need to answer, we know it’s a resounding, “YES!” Need a solution? Look no
more! Just print out our handy-dandy Voice-o-Meter and relish the sounds of silence (silence, of course,
being a relative term).
After you print out the Voice-o-Meter, tape it on the desk
or crayon box of your Loud Larry or Loquacious Lisa. Discuss the voice volume
of the individual animals and their corresponding numbers on the strip. It’s
reasonable to stay between 1 and 3 during normal classroom activities. Let your
student know about the secret signals you’ll be using. For example, if you
raise four fingers after getting Larry’s attention, he knows he’s being too
loud and needs to return to a level 1, 2, or 3.
